I believe the thing that most of these sort of lame-o, wannabe kid hipsters have in common is that they are completely insecure. There’s a desire to please and a NEED for them to have someone constantly tell them how special they are because they are “different.” It’s the people who don’t require this constant ego stroking that are truly different and fully realized COOL individuals. The whole hipster phenomenon is about self-actualization through consumerism. Sadly, that is a spiritual dead end. It is anti-counterculture because it is without a concrete political viewpoint and therefore leads to nothing except trite, conformist posing. It’s a cool contest with no winners, only pathetic, soulless losers.
